Sims 3 problem ?? :/?

So I made a family on the sims 3 and it was going really well. Then it was the toddlers birthday and somehow the cake (which candles had alright been blown out) set the kitchen on fire. The fire brigade came but they just stood there for ages staring at the fire! And now the mother is going into labour! What can I do?
