Sims 2: Toddler Twins Missing!!?

I made sure the dad was home and he was cleaning up around the house. I sent the twins to play with the activity table and the mom got invited on an outing so I sent her to leave. When the outing was done she came back and her kids were gone. Their pictures are still showing on the left, but they are all red even though I left them with full needs. I can't click on them and I cannot choose to take them somewhere or put them in the highchair or crib. There are no memeories of them being taken away or dying and the mom has a want for them to grow up well. I need help getting them back!! And yes I know I can just start over, but are there any other solutions??
