Dogs and mental stimlation?

IT means refreshed obedience training and other mental challenges. Rather than just letting the dog run off and chew a toy, or giving it treats for free, think up games that will motivate the dog to focus mentally and accomplish something. Whether that's finding a high value prize that's hidden in a room, or working food loose from one of those toys that's designed to make it a challenge. Not only does this help with obedience training but it's actually just as draining to a dog as physical exercise, if not more. Ever taken a dog to a highly stimulating, exciting environment where it just seems to be on constant high alert due to all the unfamiliar distractions? Focused, alert, eyes wide open, and excited the whole time? There may not be running or walking or lots of physical activity involved but when you take a dog back out of this environment and make it quiet and peaceful they're likely to be so physically drained from having something monopolize their attention and focus for such a long time that they calm down ALOT for the rest of the day or even sleep for hours. Their attention span is small and mental capacity is limited. Mental challenges tire them out quickly.
