Is nature out to get back at us?

I don't believe nature has any agenda or direction, but it does seem that when any species becomes too success fulll nature intervenes and eliminates it. Humans have released the stored energy of millions of years of sunlight through the use of fossil fuels. Must make a difference. Mankind cannot change the consequences because the overwhelming majority have much more pressing problems of their own, and are not prepared to sacrifice their lifestyles for the benefit of future generations.
